چکیده

Using an incentivized experiment with statistical power, this paper explores the role of stakes in charitable giving lottery prizes, where subjects commit to donate a fraction prize before they learn outcome lottery. We study three stake levels: 5€ ( n = 177), 100€ 168), and 1,000€ 171). Although donations increase absolute terms as increase, decrease donated pie. However, people still share roughly 20% 1,000€, amount high average monthly salary at age our subjects. The number sharing 50% pie is remarkably stable across stakes, but donating whole pie–the modal behavior charity-donation experiments–disappears stakes. Such hyper-altruistic thus seems be artifact typically employed economic psychological experiments. Our findings point out that others prevalent human feature, are important determinant sharing. Policies promoted via prosocial frames (e.g., stressing effects mask-wearing or social distancing on during Covid-19 pandemic environmentally-friendly behaviors future generations) may miscalibrated if disregard play.

However, despite growing interest in the determinants of prosocial behavior, there is only limited evidence that elevation leads to increases in altruistic behavior. In two experiments, we tested the relationship between elevation and helping behavior. Pr...
